The Places You Know By Heart!

For more than a decade I have enjoyed the peace, wonder and beauty of our backyard labyrinth. I never tire of the practice of walking meditation and am ever-amazed by the myriad ways it has enriched my life. On the eve of this winter’s first snowfall, with just a light dusting coating the frozen garden, I find myself longing for one last glimpse of the labyrinth before it is lost from view for perhaps the next several months. This photo of a snowshoe adventure several winters ago is a wonderful reminder of just how indelibly this place is etched on my heart.

We all have strong associations with places that have brought us peace and wrapped us in a sense of unconditional love. One of Breadcrumbs’ core practices is identifying and celebrating those “Quiet, Happy Places."

Perhaps one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself and your family this holiday is to take time-out to celebrate the gift of PLACE! If you are unable to physically “go” to your special spot, you might find a photo or locate a little souvenir. Next, close your eyes, place your hands on your heart, consciously slow your breathing and imagine you are there! Allow your imagination to flood your senses with all of the sights, sounds, smells and feelings you associate with one of your very favorite places on earth. Invite the energy of place to restore and revitalize you. With a sense of deep gratitude and joy, give thanks for this place you know by heart.
